Motorcycle Parking Schiphol

  • Public building

A continuation of Schiphol Airport’s ‘Always ready but never finished’ design DNA, this motorcycle parking structure consists of modular elements composed into a pavilion-like structure of slender columns supporting a flat, lightweight timber roof. A distinctive hinge makes the connection between wide spans, maximizing visibility and social safety below. The columns also provide an exhaust for fumes, as well as gutters to funnel rainwater into planters below. Underneath, repetitive and framed daylight domes, reminiscent of Schiphol’s ceiling mirror, bring sun during the day and even broad illumination at night. A real-life Bat Cave fit for a special airport.
