Residential Building Tacheles

At the heart of a new masterplan, situated along the central square, PWR developed a new residential building with 36 high-end apartments. The characteristic nine meter wide concrete balconies create a palazzo effect: generous outdoor living space with views on the new square. The apartments are ideally suited for families or the elderly, there is sufficient moving space and no barriers throughout the building. The layout of the building is extremely flexible with multiple shafts on each side, a continuous grid in the ceiling for light connections and a repetitive facade system, allowing multiple configurations of each apartment. In the ground floor entrance lobbies are mixed with retail units.

The robust and expressive facade is not only self-supporting, it also supports the floors of the building, eliminating the need for additional columns or beams in the apartments. Each facade section consists of three parts: the floor is always made of one element, the two side walls are bolted with anchors. So with this special facade, three things have been solved in one: structural support of the building, cantilever balcony and attractive facade all in one.
